Chris Cain’s Distinguished Career

Regional Director Operations

Autumn Leaves

Before opening and operating St. Gabriel’s Hospice and The Clear Fork Group, he was the Regional Director of Operations at Constant Care Family Management, where he led four Alzheimer’s care communities in North Texas. He was responsible for all financial, human resources, sales, regulatory, and operations management and achieved several key milestones: increased census by 14% in the first quarter, increased NOI to over 90% in three out of four communities and stabilized staffing and cost control procedures.

CEO, Texas Hospice

For five years, Chris served as CEO of Texas Hospice, a Medicare-licensed hospice agency. He led the startup, managing all its financial, sales, HR, regulatory, and operational functions. Under his leadership, the agency achieved average profit margins in the 20% range, broke even after just eight months in operation, expanded from zero to 100 patients, and added two locations in San Antonio and Austin.

Chris Cain Hospice also served as Executive Director at Trinity Hospice and Area Director of Sales and Marketing at Extendicare, where he provided management and direction for 40 long-term care facilities in Indiana and Kentucky and managed 50 salespeople in the territory with the support of five regional sales managers.

His Roles at Kindred Healthcare

His career also includes initially serving as a Marketing Representative and later as a Hospital Administrator at Kindred Healthcare. As the Hospital Administrator at Kindred Healthcare, Chris provided leadership to all divisions of the construction, implementation, and opening of a 34-bed acute care hospital. He successfully passed the CMS survey for licensure, surpassed the budgeted census by 100% each month, and exceeded EBITDARM each month.

As the Marketing Representative, Chris developed a strong set of referral sources through consistent relationship building and high-level educational techniques, establishing a responsive customer service reputation with large hospitals, assisted living centers, nursing homes, home health agencies, physicians, and case managers. He was responsible for adding two new referring hospitals within one year, increasing referrals by 15% from the previous year, and developing a large group of referring physicians, specifically in internal medicine, pulmonology, nephrology, surgery, and wound care. He was the top sales producer for over two quarters.

Earlier On in His Career

The career success of Chris Cain, Clear Fork Group, was established early on. His first position in the healthcare space was as Executive Director at Sterling House Corporation in 1998, where he oversaw a 33-bed assisted living community in Oklahoma.  There, he exceeded the budgeted EBITDA percentage every month and established a solid relationship-building and cold-calling approach to achieve a 99.5% census at the Oklahoma site.

He later brought his talent and skills to the Covenant Group. Chris initially served as Marketing Director, responsible for all external and internal marketing, sales, and public relations for a product serving senior adults.  He leveraged an events and direct marketing approach, including cold calling and continued relationship building, to continually meet and exceed sales projections. This resulted in a 20% increase in referrals over three years, a 15% increase in net income, and improvements in patient quality and employee turnover.

Chris then served as a Corporate Assisted Living Specialist for two years with the Covenant Group, providing ongoing management for three operational assisted living communities while opening a new facility. He directed the efforts of three executive directors and four sales representatives in two states. Within one quarter, Chris increased census by 18.5% and returned three sites to profitability within two months. He also built key financial tools, managed workforce budgeting, and helped standardize operations for a large-scale ($13M) business site.
